As the Euro 2020 championships get under way I thought I would show another use for Excel that is not all business, unless you are a professional gambler! This is a free download of a head to head comparison tool for all the teams in the Euro 2020 championships, developed in Excel for the Euro 2020 championships being held in June/July 2021.
What does the Excel file show?
After downloading the free Excel file (found at the end of this post) you will be presented with the Head to Head dashboard when you first open the file.
The dashboard is split into two sections with background and some key statistics, along with a couple of fun ones, on the left side. The right side of the Excel dashboard shows the past results for two teams being compared, this will show up to the last 20 matches between the teams over the past 50 years (since 1971).
How to use the Euro 2020 Head to Head Excel tool
First select the date period you want to consider statistics for. You can choose from looking at the last 50, 25, 10 or 5 years depending on how much you value the data being recent. To change the date period click on the drop down located top centre and make a selection:
The next step is to select the first team of choice, click on one of the team names and using the Excel drop down menu make a team selection:
Finally chose which team to compare against by changing the other team name, again with an Excel drop down:
What can I use this for?
This Excel tool is designed as a bit of fun to coincide with the Euro 2020 Championships. If you are not a football fan but an Excel fan then I still recommend downloading and having a play with the tool, it might give you some ideas for your next Dashboard.
The left side of the screen shows key information about the teams selected.
- Country flag and population, thanks to Excel 365s new Geography data type feature.
- Manager and key player so you know who is who!
- Head to Head stats for your selected date range, find out who is most likely to win a match between the two selected teams.
- Pie charts showing a Nations overall performance during the selected date period. This shows how often they win, lose and draw against everyone.
The right side of the screen shows previous matches between the teams selected.
The results cover every match played between the two teams over the last 50 years (to a maximum of the past 20 matches). There is a quick scan column at the end if all you want to do is get a rapid feel for which team seems to come out on top when they play each other, perfect again for those having a punt on the Euro 2020 tournament.
Summary
The Euro 2020 Head to Head tool, developed in Excel 365, compares two teams from the tournament. It provides background information, key stats and previous results between the selected teams.
The file has been developed in Excel 365 but it should work in older versions, note the country flag image will not be populated as that is a feature of Excel 365 only.
